What is an Americano?
The Americano was created during World War 2. American soldiers, stationed in Italy drank espresso which is the Italians’ stronger coffee. However, for the American soldiers, it was too strong. The story goes, they added water to the espresso to dilute the strong taste. On return to America, they then started making it themselves and named it Americano. Since then, this espresso-based drink has become popular throughout the world.
How many espresso shots are in an Americano?
Americano coffee uses espresso and hot water.
It is made with two espresso shots and plenty of hot water to dilute the strong taste. As a rule 1/3 espresso and 2/3 hot water. The taste of an Americano will change depending on the type of espresso it’s made with. If it is made with a dark roast bean, it will taste stronger. The espresso can have a range of flavours from citrus to an earthy taste, it depends on what your preference is.
