How to make a better instant coffee
Freeze-dried coffee is ideal to have in a cupboard, just in case your coffee maker goes on the blink or if you’re out of time to make it with other methods. It’s quick and convenient. The taste of instant coffee may not be the same as a cup of ground coffee, but quality brands such as Lyons have made vast improvements over the last 10 years.
Some tips…
- Use a good quality freeze-dried instant coffee, like Lyons.
- Don’t allow your water to boil or it can make your coffee taste bitter.
- Try and use filtered water.
Instant coffee method
- Heat the water to just before boiling, do not fully boil. You don’t want to pour boiling water over your soluble coffee as it will overcook and make it taste poor. If you enjoy coffee thick and creamy, you could use a cup of hot milk instead of water.
- Add no more than two rounded teaspoons of instant coffee per 200ml of water to your coffee mug.
- Pour a little hot water into your mug and stir until the instant coffee has dissolved completely, then add the remaining water and stir.
- Add flavour if you wish. Add sugar, milk, cream, honey, cinnamon, or maybe add flavoured syrups like chocolate, hazelnut, vanilla, or caramel.
